![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks, so, I gave it a short run, so far I'm surprised in a good way, tiling and the usual functional seems to work. There's, however, 4bbef8d128 and once it gets released it will be possible for the tiling scripts to manage wayland clients. The truth is that the script still doesn't support activities (I'm currently working on it) and wayland clients still can't be managed by the script. Well, that was a long time ago and things had changed since. to be clear: last time I tried (2 years ago I think) the kwin tiling script you're referring to has been missing some functionality due to deficiences of API provided by kwin.Second solutions are to use kwin scripts like kwin-tiling, but have some problems: breaking/bugs on plasma/window manager/compositor update.usually need to install own compositors. ![]() In Other Window Managers are explained that is possible to replace kwin with other window manager, but that have some problems: Usually developers are users of tiling wm, so maybe tiling can attract developers to KDE. If plasma have proper tiling that are additional bonus for those applications with vim support. From my experience, some kde application have vim keybindings support but that is not enough if whole DE environment deviate from keyboard(vim) focused approach. I3wm/sway are popular because they follow vim keybindings/philosophy, and when people learn vim they usually end on tiling wm. So, i suggest that plasma tiling mode need to simulate their approach, but it is not ultimately solutions. There are many popular tiling window managers, from my impressions i3wm(x11) and sway(wayland) are most popular. complete keybindings (placement, movement, resizing). That mode is not just tiling placement, to make it attractive to tiling wm-s users it need to have: My suggestion is to make native kwin tiling mode. I know, there are some scripts and hacking solutions(replacing kwin), but usually that make more problems (specially after updates). So, Plasma have kwin, and basic tiling is supported, but not to keep someone with higher expectation. My impression (from reddit, youtube, developers blogs) is that tiling wm-s are in increase of usages, ant that niche need plasma support. Plasma is good for general public users and have many options for power users, but there are special type of users who like tiling managers( i am one of them). ![]()
